This scholarship fund is in honor of Fritz, who lost his 10-month battle with colon cancer on February 3, 2022, at the age of 56. He grew up in Fort Collins and graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1984. His senior year he was recognized as the Fort Collins Coloradoan Male Athlete of the Year, Denver Post’s Athlete of the Year, All-State in Football, and the Colorado State Champion in the 110-meter hurdles which is still the school’s record. Fritz graduated from CSU where he ran track.
Fritz taught and coached in the Aurora Public Schools for 26 years. He loved having the opportunity to work with young men and woman of all athletic abilities. The Memorial Fund, established in Fritz’s name, was created to provide post secondary scholarships to young men and women who have participated at least 2 years in high school track and have a desire to attend a post-high school 4 year college or university, trade school, or earn a professional certification at a community college, but not necessarily run track. The students must have displayed high character, positivity, and enthusiasm in their pursuits on and off the track. The hope is to award students who might not receive other financial aid. The Fritz Fulton Memorial fund is funded through donations and an annual golf tournament.
